Another word for “Bias” is “Prejudice” . Na very complex phenomenon wey Dey come with multiple causes, often intertwined.
Make I do like professor for una here since I like to Dey teach 😂😀,
Below are the key factors wey Dey cause bias or Prejudice.
1. Socialization: People often develop prejudices based on the attitudes and beliefs prevalent in their social environment, including family, friends, religion, media, and cultural norms. Children can absorb prejudiced views from a young age through observation and imitation where dem grow!
2. Ignorance and Lack of Exposure: Lack of knowledge or interaction with certain groups can lead to the development of stereotypes and biases. Without personal experience, people may rely on oversimplified and often inaccurate information about others. This mean sey you no sabi but assume sey you sabi 😀
3. Fear of the Unknown: Humans have a tendency to fear what is unfamiliar. This fear can manifest as prejudice against those who are different in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, etc. na here all the tribal and racial bigots fall. Dem no see pass their skin 😊
4. Psychological Projection: Sometimes, individuals project their own negative traits or fears onto others, leading to prejudice. This can be a defense mechanism to deal with internal conflicts.
5. Group Identity and Conflict: Identifying strongly with a particular group can lead to viewing outsiders as inferior or threatening. This “us vs. them” mentality reinforces prejudices, especially in situations of conflict or competition. If you be MAGA, or emilokan, you go understand this point.
6. Economic and Political Factors: Economic uncertainties and competition for resources can exacerbate prejudices, especially against groups perceived as competitors or threats to job security and social benefits.
7. Historical and Societal Injustices: Historical conflicts, colonialism, slavery, and other forms of oppression have long-lasting impacts, often institutionalizing prejudices and discrimination in societies. Example
For this matter na how my black brothers and sisters for here Dey respond to everything from the eye of racism. The injustice wey racism do Dey affect how dem see things.
You have to intentionally unlearn to relearn a lot of things in life to avoid becoming a victim of unconscious BIAS or PREJUDICE.
Many of us don learn garbage in the past and when we no gree unlearn. The thing go begin affect our judgments of things.
Our reasoning must be progressive in nature.
Una try for this matter. But na endless conversation.
